Uses and applications of piezoelectric actuators in the textile industry

Piezoelectric actuators are used in a variety of applications, from ultrasonic cleaning to precision positioning. Flexible textile production is also based on piezoelectric technology, by selecting the needle electronically.

Piezoceramic-based needle selection systems are better than traditional magnetic or mechanical selection systems. The high selection speed of the actuators increases productivity, gives low energy consumption and reduces energy costs.

Purpose and operation of Hoerbiger’s piezoelectric actuators

The actuators can be supplied with two operating modes, either with integrated electronics using a standard BUS compatible with the WAC© system bus or without electronics for machines without many actuators installed.

A large variety of configurations are available to match the different machine models:

  • Single row or double row
  • From 6 to 8 or 16 levers
  • Various lever angles available
  • Standard or CNC levers for special shapes and different hardnesses
  • A variety of connectors: D-sub, flat or with pre-installed lead
  • Different ways of assembling the levers to suit different ways of attaching the actuator (top, bottom, right, left)

The following are standard for all actuators produced by HOERBIGER Motion Control GmbH:

  • Components are fully and rapidly replaceable, with no need for adjustments
  • Piezoceramics are made from powder mixtures monitored directly by HOERBIGER Motion Control GmbH for best performance and the highest quality
  • The ceramics and electronics are protected by a special coating against aggressive oils
  • 3-wire technology
  • Short, repeatable flight time of only 2.5 ms and movement in less than 4.4ms
  • Aluminium body milled from solid
